The pair can be seen wrestling with each other fully clothed while submerged in a purpose built water tank at Pinewood Studios.

As the duo grapple in the murky water, they each have strained expressions on their faces in a bid to make the fight as realistic as possible.

In addition to wrestling each other, the actors also tussled with an underwater cameraman to add a dramatic first person element to the scene.

At one stage, Danny’s puffed out cheeks appear on the verge of bursting as he struggles to overcome his in-show half-brother.

In another, a flurry of oxygen bubbles rise to the surface as the characters exhaled in an exhausting clinch.

An eerie image of Matt alone and deadly still suggests his character will come off second best and meet a sorry end.

While the pair might be at each other’s throats for the explosive episode, when the cameras weren’t rolling they smiled as they tread water.

Matt sported a pair of goggles atop his head, suggesting he had difficulty opening his eyes underwater while filming.

In an interview with the , Dyer revealed: ‘I’ve got to say some of that stuff under the water, I was actually fighting for my life in real life.

‘I had to have my earhole syringed – a lot of lake in my earhole.’

The fight is the culmination of a dark storyline which began earlier this year when Dean raped Mick’s wife Linda (Kellie Bright).

In the latest episode, Dean also forced himself on his fiancée Roxy Mitchell, which prompted his mum Shirley Carter to try and drown him in the bath.

Roxy confided in Linda and headed to the police station to report the attack.

Meanwhile Linda confronted rapist Dean, who admitted to his previous attack, before making a hasty escape.
