“Let’s go to war.”
These are the words of conviction spoken by Jennifer Lawrence’s character, Mystique, in the new X-Men Apocalypse trailer. Lawrence’s character leads the X-Men team against a new villain: Apocalypse, a god-like, ancient mutant portrayed by Star Wars’ Oscar Isaac.
Apocalypse’s camp includes the likes of Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Storm, (Alexandra Shipp), and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smitt-McPhee). Other new additions to the cast are Sophie Turner (a.k.a. Sansa Stark to fans of Game of Thrones) — who will be portraying a young Jean Grey — and former EastEnders star Ben Hardy, who will be playing winged mutant Angel.
Bryan Singer, who directed the earlier installment of the mutant series, X-Men: Days of Future Past, will be back in the director’s chair for X-Men: Apocalypse. Also returning to reprise their respective roles are James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy (a.k.a. Beast), and Evan Peters as Peter Maximoff — otherwise known as the mutant Quicksilver.
The trailer sees the villainous Apocalypse awakening from hibernation and placing his efforts into ending humanity. Of course, the X-Men aren’t about to sit down and watch the world they live in crumble into despair. They go to war in hero fashion — not just for their own sakes, but for the good of mankind.
“Everything they built will fall,” declares Apocalypse as the trailer shows a plethora of destruction left in the character’s wake.
The trailer ends with Apocalypse choking Mystique, which leaves fans to wonder how the fate of their beloved X-Men team will fair in the upcoming film — which is slated for release this coming May.
