Whatever happens at the Academy Awards, Liev Schreiber says his Oscar-nominated film Spotlight has already scored the highest honors in his mind.
"I'm really, really, really proud to be associated with the film," Schreiber, 48, at told PEOPLE at the 2016 Independent Spirit Awards, where the drama took home the award for best feature. "I'm very happy because I know already that it's won. It's done something really substantial and I'm proud to be associated with it."

Spotlight took home outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture at last month's Screen Actors Guild Awards as well.

In the film, which tells the real-life story of the investigative journalists at the Boston Globe that broke the story of the Catholic Church's sex abuse scandal in 2002, Schreiber plays Marty Baron, the editor of The Globe from 2001 to 2012. Baron is currently the editor of The Washington Post.
